ABOUT


Melanie Nakaue is an artist, writer, designer and educator living in Los Angeles, CA. She received her MFA from the California Institute of the Arts (Cal Arts) in 2004, and her BA from Scripps College in Art and Art History in 2001.

Selected screenings and exhibitions of her work include: “Narrative Shorts Film Festival” at University Art Gallery, CSU Chico, “Words”, AM NUNDEN DA, London, “Portrait Projects” at 533, Los Angeles, CA, Portland Documentary and eXperimental Film Festival, “Folklore” at Monte Vista Projects, Los Angeles, CA,  “Free Roaming” Gallery 4F, Los Angeles, CA (curated by artist Charles Long).

Melanie’s writing is featured in  MATERIAL Issue 3 (Fall 2010), an artist run journal based in Los Angeles, CA and in the  The Brock Review (Vol. 10, no. 1), a humanities journal published by Brock University in.  Melanie is an instructor in art at UC Riverside and at Fullerton College.

Melanie is also the founder and head designer of FRIENDS OF SIMILAR SIZE, a conceptual jewelry line that is currently available at LA><ART.
